Moxibustion or Moxa

A form of heat therapy

The use of mugwort (artemisia vulgaris or artemisia argyii) to bring warmth to the body. Moxa can be placed directly on the skin, offering a direct method to warm an acupuncture point; on an acupuncture needle, allowing heat to be directed into the body thru a warm needle; or hovered over the skin to warm a meridian or a section of the body.

This therapy is often used on people who often feel cold, have pain that is improved with heat, have low energy and chronic fatigue, and/or a low pulse reading. Patients may also be encouraged to do moxa at home for additional support. There is no additional fee for this service as it covered under the cost of an acupuncture session. It is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture or alone.
