Lung 9 — Taiyuan: Supreme Abyss

As we move through autumn, the energy of the Lungs takes center stage. In Chinese medicine, the Lungs help us take in what is pure, release what we no longer need, and connect us to the rhythm of life through breath.

An important acupuncture points for supporting this process is Lung 9 (Taiyuan), the “Supreme Abyss.”

Located at the wrist crease, it’s the source point of the Lung channel—a place of deep nourishment for both body and spirit.

Physically, Lung 9 helps:

            •           Tonify Lung Qi and Yin

            •           Transform phlegm

            •           Ease cough, wheezing, and asthma

            •           Soothe a dry throat or chest tightness

            •           Support restful sleep

It promotes the Lung’s natural descending function—allowing breath, fluids, and emotions to move smoothly through the body.

Emotionally & Spiritually, Lung 9 offers grounding in times of emptiness. It helps soothe feelings of loneliness and the subtle grief that can surface during this season of letting go. It also reminds us that fulfillment doesn’t come from what we hold, but from what we can release.

When we connect with Lung 9, we tap into the wisdom of breath itself—each inhale a receiving, each exhale a surrender.
